Solo 24 hr mountain bike Nationals 2018 Bago
□ Can you imagine riding for 24 hours straight, around a 20km bush track? How would you keep focus so you don't crash? □ This is the brutal world of solo 24 hour mountain bike racing. The 2018 Nationals were just held in the Bago state forest track in Wauchope, Mid North Coast of NSW for the first time outside of a capital city. The wind was so strong the race was ended early but saw Jason English and Kate Penglase as the male and female winners after 16 hours and they will race at the World Championships in Scotland in a month. Everyone can take part in the event from beginner through to the competitive rider. The aim is to complete as many laps in the race time period as you can, either as a solo rider or in a team of friends or work-mates depending on the category you enter. You can do one lap then change over to your next rider or do several before changing over to your next rider, it is up to you and your team in the team relay category. You can go as hard and fast as you like or take it at a slow relaxed pace and stop and start as often as you like in both the teams & solo categories. It's all up to you.
2 or 3 riders can tag laps in a traditional relay style in the 6+6 hr event where only one team rider is out on track at a time. The most laps in the fastest time will rank positions.
If you have never been in a Bunch Teams Event before they are great fun & you can all ride together or seperate in teams of 4 or less. You form a team with your friends or work-mates, but if you would like to take part but can't form a team we can try to include you in a team or you can go it alone as a solo competitor. Laps will be approximately 11.5 km and take about 40 - 60 minutes to complete together or if doing separate laps, depending on your fitness you change over to your next teammate or you can do a lap or a few laps and then change over. It's all up to your team and your team strategy.
Bunch team riders will all ride together on track as opposed to a traditional relay team. More information about this on the entry page.
The course is designed to suit all riders skill levels, not too hilly or technical but there will be some sections where there is two ways you can go, the easy way (usually the slower trail) or for the experienced rider something a bit more technical.
Remember you can go as fast and hard as you like or at your own pace. It's all up to you. You can start and stop as often as you like. How you take on the course is up to you. This event is ran into the darkness of night so you will need lights!
